BOHS ATTENDANCE PHILOSOPHY
Brea Olinda High School believes that it is necessary to set limits on student absences and tardiness if the school is to help students develop attitudes of dependability and responsibility which will serve them in later life. In our experiences we have found that there is a direct correlation existing between a student’s attendance habits and his or her academic success. It is vitally important that students attend school on a consistent basis.
The Brea Olinda High School attendance policies have been established to provide motivation for our students to be in attendance so that they may achieve their full potential.
According to state laws, students must attend school until the age of eighteen unless they graduate before their eighteenth birthday or pass the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE). Parents are responsible for the regular and punctual attendance of their children. Illness or medical and dental appointments are the only legally acceptable reasons for absence. We encourage parents to schedule these appointments outside of regular school hours if at all possible.
