School Site Council

ROLE OF THE SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL

The council is required, under state law, to serve as the school community representative body for determining the focus of the school’s academic instructional program and all related categorical resources. The council has responsibility for the following duties:

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • carry out all other duties assigned to the council by the district governing board and by state of federal law
  • elect officers and establish an elections committee to coordinate elections for open council positions annually
  • encourage broad representation of parents, community members, teachers and students, if appropriate, including all socioeconomic, ethnic, and programmatic groups represented in the school in leadership roles and in the activities of the council
  • participate in all local, state, and federal reviews of the school’s program for compliance and quality
  • review and approve School Safety Plan

SINGLE PLAN FOR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT (school action plan)

  • analyze and evaluating the academic achievement of all students in the school
  • evaluate the effectiveness of the school’s progress toward meeting school goals to raise student achievement for all students annually
  • develop and approve the school action plan and all related proposed expenditures in accordance with all state and federal laws and regulations
  • obtain recommendations from school advisory, standing and special committees regarding the focus of the school action plan
  • provide ongoing monitoring of the implementation of the plan and budgets/expenditures
  • recommend the school action plan, including related budget expenditures, to the local governing board
  • revise the school action plan, including expenditures, timelines, and evaluation criteria as needed

The BOHS School Site Council plans to meet at 3:00 pm in the Main Office Conference Room on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, October 19, 2016
  • Wednesday, February 15, 2017
  • Wednesday, May 3, 2017

If you are interested in running for election, please contact Donna Prince, Principal's Assistant, at dprince@bousd.us. Parent elections are normally held at Back-to-School Night each September.
