For anyone who doesn't know: Festivals are graded performances similar to our marching competitions in the fall, but only Jazz Festivals score groups competitively against each other. The rest get graded essentially like letter grades. The goal is to get a 1=Superior (essentially an "A"). Most of our festivals will also have a clinic after the performance where one of the judges gives our students commentary and feedback on their performance and works with them directly. Also, as a standard part of the experience, students are expected to stick around after their performance and watch other groups perform. This is essential to their learning process - listening critically to other groups perform is important to understand the art of the activity and to compare and contrast with your own performance. It's also important to support other schools' instrumental music programs.

The Knotts Berry Farm Trip on 5/7/22 is a festival performance, which Band Boosters will pay the registration for ($25 per student). We perform in a festival at a separate location in the morning, after which we spend the rest of the day at the park. The trip to the Knotts is optional and the ticket is NOT paid for by the boosters. (but it's super fun for the kids and I highly encourage everyone to participate) Expect to pay ~$30 per student for the park pass ($40 for chaperones). If you already own a pass, then you don't have to pay. I'll send out more details regarding payment and planning for this particular trip in the future.
