BOAT - Brea Olinda Adult Transition

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The BOAT (Brea Olinda Adult Transition) Program at BOHS is designed to meet the educational needs of students, aged 18-22, who have moderate to severe cognitive disabilities.  This branch of Life Skills was started 11 years ago, and has grown from 4 students in 2013 to a high of 18 in 2017 (we currently have 17 students enrolled for the fall).  The program consists of students who have graduated from high school with their Certificate of Achievement, and they may stay in the program until the semester in which they turn 22 years old.  Our main focus of our Adult Transition Program is on functional academics, independent living skills, and workability; the main goal we have for our students is for them to become as independent as possible once they exit.

jeannie parel - Life Skills Aide

Our beloved staff member, Ms. Jeannie Parel, passed away on March 6th, 2013. Jeannie had worked at BOHS as an instructional assistant for more than 13 years, her final 2 in our Life Skills program.  Before that, she had worked with us regularly, and we lovingly referred to her as our "5th Beatle".  Jeannie meant so much to our students and staff- she helped everyone with whatever they needed, she always had a smile and a kind word, and she made the most amazing cupcakes!  She is sorely missed, but never forgotten. She will always be remembered and will forever be in our hearts.  Thank You, Ms. Jeannie!
