Hello, parents and students, my name is Mr. Mings. I am teaching "Art of Video Production" and "Video Production" through North Orange County ROP, here at Brea Olinda High School.
After almost 4 decades in the motion picture industry, I've decided it's time to "pass the baton" to the next generation of filmmakers. I've never forgotten that an eighth grade photography teacher instilled in me a love of photography, which led to a long and fruitful career in film. I've often thought that someday, I might have the privilege of inspiring students the way I was inspired. That is why I am here.
My experience in the industry has been vast and varied. Early in my career, I wrote, produced, and directed Faith-based motion pictures, which have been distributed on six continents in many languages, and were among the first of their kind to be shown in the former Soviet Union and Mainland China. Later, I developed an interest in computers, and learned 3D computer animation and visual effects. 18 years ago I was admitted into the Visual Effects Society, and I've been an active member ever since.
I've been able to work on some excellent feature films, such as "Mumford," "God's Not Dead," and "Moms' Night Out." I've worked on lots of TV shows for Nickelodeon, including "The Thundermans," "Knight Squad," "Bella and the Bulldogs," and "All That." I recently finished my fourth season on the Netflix original comedy "The Ranch." It's been quite a ride.
I love movies, and enjoy bringing that love and excitement (and experience) into the classroom.
