Advanced Placement United States History (APUSH)

United States History emphasizes the economic, social and political developments up to and including the twenty-first century.  The study of our nation’s history concentrates on cause and effect relationships and on developing understanding of multiple causation: the knowledge that things are the way they are for many reasons.  Such historical study leads beyond the memorization of unexplained and isolated facts toward the ability to detect trends, analyze movements and events, and develop an arguable thematic “sense of history.”  This course will be taught and learned in a variety of different ways to prepare you for success on the AP exam.  Your academics will include, but not be limited to; videos, documentaries, Document Based Questions (DBQs), Short Answer Responses (SAQs), Long Essay Responses (LEQs), Multiple Choice Inquiries (MCQs), Google Classroom space, primary and secondary source annotated readings, journaling/reflecting, debating, current events, discussions, group work, research, note taking, outlines, timelines,  and lectures.

Our class is structured not only in the direction of learning United States history, but learning the tools needed to study history, developing the necessary skills needed to be successful in higher education settings, and excelling on the AP United States History Exam.  The fundamentals of reading comprehension, writing structured and organized responses, and understanding how to speak and engage in conversations while respecting many opinions will be a major cornerstone of our environment and time together.
