Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Vanessa Stewart as the new Athletic Director at Brea Olinda High School, bringing nearly two decades of experience in educational leadership, athletics administration, teaching, and student development.
Since 2022, Stewart has served as Athletic Director for the Whittier Union High School District, where she has led comprehensive athletic programs, managed departmental budgets, recruited and mentored coaching staff, strengthened community partnerships, and promoted a positive, inclusive culture that supports student-athlete success. Her leadership has focused on developing programs that emphasize excellence, character, teamwork, and opportunities for all students.
In addition to her athletic leadership experience, Stewart has been an English teacher at Whittier High School since 2006 and has held numerous leadership roles throughout her career, including English Department Chair, AVID coordinator and teacher, WASC Coordinator, District Curriculum and Assessment Coach, School Site Council Chairperson, and Acting Dean of Students. She has consistently demonstrated a commitment to instructional excellence, collaborative leadership, and fostering student achievement both inside and outside the classroom.
"Vanessa Stewart is an accomplished educational leader who understands that athletics are an extension of the classroom," said Superintendent Brinda Leon. "Her passion for developing students, supporting coaches, and building strong school communities makes her an outstanding addition to Brea Olinda High School.”
Stewart earned a Master of Arts in Educational Administration and an Administrative Services Credential from Concordia University, Irvine. She also holds a bachelor's degree in English from the University of San Diego and a California Clear Single Subject Teaching Credential. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her excellence in education, including being named Teacher of the Year by both the Whittier Rotary Club and the Whittier High School Alumni Association.
Stewart officially begins her new role with Brea Olinda High School on August 7, 2026.
