Spanish 2 - Course Description
Students will continue to work with the four basic communication skills. Each lesson consists of carefully calculated listening, reading, writing, and speaking activities on a certain theme presented in a cultural context. These help students develop competency in specific areas such as the house, the hotel, emotions, school, descriptions and pastimes. This course will be conducted as much as possible in Spanish and students are expected to use Spanish in class.

“En Español 2” Textbook, three ring binder, paper, pencil.
Strategies for Success:
Speak Spanish in class as well as outside of class.
Come prepared to class.
Bring your textbooks to class.
Pay attention in class and do all of the assigned work.
Ask questions; ask for teacher help; attend peer tutoring if needed.
Practice your vocabulary words daily.
Review your notes nightly even if there is no written homework.
Grade Distribution.
Grading will be based on the following criteria:
Tests and Quizzes: (50%) Tests will be given every 2-3 weeks. Quizzes will be given weekly. Both tests and quizzes will include listening comprehension, reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and speaking proficiency.
Homework: (15%) The purpose of homework is to acquire fundamental knowledge necessary for successful participation in classroom discussions and activities as well as practice of important skills. As a result, homework completion is very important. Homework will be assigned daily and corrected in class. It is due at the beginning of the class period unless stated otherwise.
Class Participation: (15%) Class participation is vital to be successful in this class. Attend class regularly and be prepared to offer positive ideas and give thoughtful and reflective comments.
Projects: (10%) Projects such as skits, dialogues, monologues, and reports will be assigned at the end of a chapter and/or unit.
Final Exam: (10%) The final exam will be a comprehensive exam that will include listening, reading, grammar, writing, and speaking.
Make-up Policy
It is the student’s responsibility to make up any missed work. One day of make-up will be given for a day’s excused absence for any assignments missed.
