Brea Olinda High School Health Care Pathway Adds Cutting-Edge Anatomage Table

Brea Olinda High School’s Sports Medicine and Health Care Professions Pathway program has taken a major step forward in preparing students for future medical careers with the recent addition of an Anatomage Table. This advanced 3D anatomy visualization and virtual dissection tool is the same technology used in top universities and medical schools around the world–making it a rare and exceptional resource for high school students.

Funded by California's K-12 Strong Workforce Program, the $100,000 table will help prepare students in medical careers and sports medicine elective courses, prepare for real-world clinical scenarios and develop critical thinking skills, said Health Care Pathway Instructor Ken McCall.
“Small group collaboration will allow students to explore the various body systems improving comprehension, retention, and engagement. This will better prepare them for success in college and careers related to medicine,” McCall said.

With this technology, students can examine life-size digital cadavers, rotate and isolate body systems, and perform virtual dissections—all in a safe, interactive, and highly realistic way. This hands-on learning goes far beyond textbooks, giving students a realistic and in-depth understanding of human anatomy.
For many students, the experience will spark and strengthen their interest in pursuing careers in nursing, medicine, physical therapy, and other health-related fields. With the Anatomage Table now part of the program’s instruction, BOHS students are gaining a unique head start on their future in healthcare– right here in Brea.

During BOHS Back-to-School Night on Aug. 26, parents and families had their first look at the Anatomage Table with plenty of “oohs” and “wows” expressed. A community unveiling is currently being planned for early October. McCall is hoping that by October, students in the program will have had a chance to complete lessons and demonstrate the table’s many features.
