Digital Design and Illustration trains students in electronic layout, design and illustrations used in the preparation of electronic and print-ready artwork. Students learn the essentials of electronic desktop publishing software and hardware. The graphic design process taught includes foundational principles and elements of design, concept development, color theory and typography. Instruction includes page layout and measurements including balance and proportions. Students produce and assess finished mechanical artwork that is ready for print or digital reproduction. Work is accomplished using current graphic software and assessed to verify proficiency in skills and concepts taught. Digital Design and Illustration is UC approved as a “F” Visual and Performing Arts requirement.

Visual Communications trains students in the fundamental concepts of visual art, digital media, and Web-based tools and materials as the primary means of communication and expression. Students will develop their knowledge and skills in both visual art concepts as well as new and emerging digital processes by which individuals can create and communicate complex concepts in a broad range of occupations and professions. Students learn the elements and principles of design, color theory, and typography through two- and three-dimensional design projects emphasizing research, analysis, the creative process, critical examination of work, and application of historic and contemporary styles. Students apply design concepts to create and manipulate digital images. Visual Communications is UC approved as a “F” Visual and Performing Arts requirement.
