Begin your journey into the medical profession with the

Patient Care Pathway

at Brea Olinda High School.

 

In this pathway students learn academic and technical skills needed to pursue a career in health science and medical technology, from entry level to management as well as technical and professional career specialties.

 

Patient care pathway students have the opportunity to put their skills to work while completing the Athletic Training Student Aide Internship. Students further develop their leadership skills with like minded peers, and learn from guest speakers, and compete in regional and state level competitions through the Brea Olinda High School HOSA Chapter.

Patient Care Pathway Course Descriptions*

Medical Careers
Learn how to take a patient's vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, and heart rate. You'll learn about diverse medical and health occupations found in hospitals, community health centers, and clinics. You will study the roles and responsibilities of various health care providers. This class will prepare you for further study in health care professions.

Sports Medicine and Therapy
Sports Medicine and Therapy is for students who are interested in the practical and theoretical aspects of sports injury prevention, recognition, treatment, and care of sport-related injuries.  Students will learn basic anatomy and physiology of the human body, mechanisms of a sport injury, basic injury evaluation, sports therapy modalities including taping, wrapping, protective bracing, equipment fitting, follow-up care, and use of equipment and techniques to aid patients in rehabilitation. Students will also learn principles of fitness and conditioning, nutrition, and how sports medicine is part of an integrated health care delivery system.

* Students have the opportunity to take Body Systems & Disorders, Dental Core, Emergency Medical Responder, Medical Assistant - Clinical & Administrative, Nursing Assistant - Long Term Care,and Pharmacy Technology off campus through North Orange County ROP's regional courses.
