Policy and Procedures

These are the terms read and agreed to when books were distributed to the student via the Textbook Damage Report:

Fines per book:

Textbooks/ Novels- You will have a fine if it's not returned, or if it's returned damaged. Novels are not library books. These are like textbooks; you will be fined if it is not returned, or if it's returned damaged. You cannot check out more than two novels at a time.

Library books- These books have due dates. All due dates for these books are listed on a card in the back of the book. This date is verbally given as well when you check it out. If the book is not returned or damaged, you will be charged the price of the book, you have three weeks to return the item or renew. If it is not returned after thirty days of being on your account you will be assessed the replacement cost of the item and no check outs from the library will be allowed until item is returned, replaced or paid for.

Check Out Process:

Please have your ID to check out books during Registration AND the school year. This ensures that the correct student account is being accessed when you check out a book.

Your ID is scanned and then the books you receive will be scanned and recorded to your account.

You are responsible for the books checked out to you. (Be sure to make note of which copies are yours! Do not leave them in classrooms and be sure you get YOUR copy anytime you work with friends or groups).

You will be charged for any books checked out to you and not returned undamaged. You can return unused books at any time to the Library.

Check in Process:

Return all books to the Library (during the year) or the Textbook room (at the end of the year).

The barcode of all returned books will be scanned and the book will be removed from the account of who checked out the book.

Fine letters will be sent out in early May for any books missing, returned late, or returned damaged.

***These practices are in conjunction with the standards of the Brea Library, and the BOHS standards for developing responsible young adults.
